Grand Daddy Purple Strain Review | GDP Weed Strain

purple and crystal dank grand daddy purple strain

This was a Californian creation, and is one of the original #dankenstein strains. In 2003, Ken Estes crossed two indicas in Purple Urkle and Big Bud. The result was this notorious strain which has been a Californian staple for many years now. Although compared to some more recent strains GDP weed strain isn't quite as crazy, but it's still one of the most sought after strains across the world.

Granddaddy Purple (GDP) Background

This is one of the most popular indica cannabis strains in the entire world. It was created in the Bay Area in 2003, and is a cross between Big Bud and Purple Urkle. GDP weed strain carries its parents' best parts. The big buds which are dense and full of THC which comes from Big Bud, and the dark purple twinge from Purple Urkle. It gets its name from its big buds and purple hue also. This strain is great to great up using a plastic or a metal grinder.

Grand Daddy Purp THC Level

This strain is quite strong relative to most indicas. The average THC in a standard indica is around 13%, but as we've heard, this is a dank strain, and the percentage can test as high as 23%. The average THC level in the GDP strain is around 18%.

Granddaddy Purple Cost

This is one of the original #dankenstein, boutique strains, so you'd be lucky to get a gram at anything less than $15. An eighth from a dispensary in California is around $35. This isn't the most expensive, but it's definitely top-shelf material. Outside of California your best bet is to find this strain in a coffee shop in Amsterdam, but if it's the real deal expect to pay a lot.

GDP Taste Profile

  • grape
  • berry
  • sweet
  • earthy

Grand daddy Purp strain has inherited the grape flavor from its Purple Urkle relative and is one of those strains which tastes as good as it looks. The purple is a signup quality in certain strains, and GDP is no different.

Is Grand Daddy Purple available in oil, wax, shatter, or edibles?

You can use any strain to create any format of cannabis products you favor the most. Simply look up methods of how to make shatter, oil, wax, etc. and then create some yourself. The only problem is that it's sometimes difficult to find specific strains, and GDP is definitely difficult to find.

You can make edibles very easily. Simply decarboxylate your cannabis by sticking it in the oven at 180 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour. Make sure the weed is brown. You want it to look like it's too cooked to smoke. Mix it with something fatty or oily, such as butter, margarine, Nutella, peanut butter, whatever you want really. It's not water-soluble though, so it has to be solved in fat. Then just cook it up with something like a cookie or whatever and eat it up. You can also put it in coffee, tea, smoothies... get creative with grand daddy purp strain.

This strain is a heavy Indica. As such it should be treated with care. If you're looking to be hit by some major couch lock, then look no further. This strain is great for those who want to alleviate symptoms at nighttime or during the day if they're too sick do to anything else. It will help you eat and it will help you sleep. Just smoke the strain an hour or two before you want to eat, or an hour or two before you want to sleep, and you will find that both are much easier.

If you find that you've got dry mouth, don't worry about it. Make yourself a lovely cup of tea, with milk, or almond milk, or no milk, whatever you prefer. Add sugar or honey if you take it, wait for it to cool, drink the whole thing at once. You will find your dry mouth has gone. Another great tip is getting fresh mint and mixing it with boiling water. The Dutch coffeeshops sell this and it's called "Vers Munt Thee" in Dutch. If you wait for it to cool down, mix it with honey, and drink it all at once, your dry mouth will disappear.

Grand Daddy Purple Growing Tips

GDP yield is expected to be around 4 ounces for an indoor plant, and 3 pounds for an outdoor grow. Take a look at the video above to see how to support your GDP strain.

Grand Daddy Purple Flowering Time

GDP marijuana plant grows best indoors but can be grown outside in climates such as California. Flowering takes about 78 days indoors, and you can expect massive oversized buds. This is thanks to the Big Bud genetics the strain has. However, you will have to expect this. The buds will grow so large, that they may bring the plant down. Prepare some support for this strain around the 50th day with some bamboo. The video above shows how to do this as well as pruning for bigger buds still.

Granddaddy Purple Seeds

The seeds are very hard to come by. You're only going to be able to get clippings, and that's completely impossible outside of being in the states. Your best bet to smoke this strain is hoped to find it in a coffee shop in Amsterdam. Be warned: the coffee shops are often run by criminals as weed is actually not legal in the Netherlands. This means that what they say they're selling is not always that strain. This can be annoying, but you can find coffee shops who know what they're talking about.

Grand Daddy Kush or Granddaddy Purple Haze Seeds

not to be confused with Granddaddy Purple Haze or Grand Daddy Kush, seeds are sometimes confused. There are a lot of confusion surrounding strains, and it's always incredibly hard to know whether what you're smoking, is exactly what you think it is. You're unlucky to get true GDP outside of Amsterdam or the US.
