Those who have yet to try weed have no clue just how ravenous even a single hit can make you. It definitely varies from person to person and on the strain of weed, and on numerous other factors too, but for a lot of people the munchies are pretty ardent.


The empty pit in your stomach can feel like a void of oxygen, like being adrift in the ocean and hopelessly treading water as you scan the horizon in search of land, or like climbing a mountain with a blizzard tearing at your grip from all sides.


Okay, I’m obviously exaggerating, but I’m sure you can sympathize with the sensation. And you can also probably sympathize with trying to figure out what you have readily available to help satiate the hunger.


Chances are you don’t want to have to start putting together a full meal. For one thing it takes a lot of time, but you also have to consider the fact that your ability to cook is likely to be inhibited by the intoxication, not to mention the safety concerns that come with cooking while high.


So snacks do often seem to be the better option, but it often feels like a snack isn’t going to be enough when you feel as hungry as the munchies makes us feel. What you need are some choices which are quick and easy, but which are also going to be satisfying.


And you should also make the point of thinking ahead and preparing these foods as much as you can before you get high so you can be sure that they’re ready when you need them. Let’s look at three great options here:


Grilled Cheese


Grilled cheese is an old favourite for high folks, and it’s pretty easy to understand the popularity. It’s very easy to make, it’s filling and you can even personalize it a little bit with a few extra ingredients. 


I mean when it comes to making sure that you don’t accidentally burn the house down or make a terribly inadequate meal on account of how high you are, grilled cheese is a very reliable choice because you pretty much just can’t get it wrong.


If you can’t throw a slice of cheese between two slices of bread and stick it on the grill for a couple of minutes then you my friend, are way too high and you should probably just go ahead and lie down.


If you feel like you can withstand a few more minutes of the munchies and are aware enough for something a little more inventive, there’s some experimentation you can do with your grilled cheese. 


Some very healthy options too. You could include tomatoes, onions, spinach, you could make it on wholewheat bread, there’s even a grilled cheese recipe which includes apples which would be healthy and delicious too.


Dark Chocolate


Chocolate is kind of like ambrosia for stoners. I mean, chocolate is beloved by most people and maybe when you’re high your taste buds are just extra receptive to the deliciousness and so you enjoy it even more.


You might very well be tempted to eat an entire large chocolate bar by yourself when you’ve got the munchies, but this is probably not the best idea because as good as it tastes, it’s usually not healthy at all.


Dark chocolate is kind of a different story. Usually having less sugar than milk or white chocolate, and also generally high in some beneficial elements like zinc, magnesium and iron, dark chocolate is healthier than you would expect.


It’s also quite a bit heavier than other kinds of chocolate, which can mean that you would be less inclined to eat too much of it. So if you get yourself a big bar of dark chocolate before you get high, you should usually be able to eat part of it and fully satiate your munchies.


Buttered Popcorn


If sweet stuff isn’t your forte but you don’t feel like you need a full meal such as a grilled cheese sandwich, then you always have the savoury option of popcorn. And while it’s not necessarily extremely filling, adding butter can help out with.


The popcorn itself does have some fiber and antioxidants, it tastes really good, you can eat a lot of it without giving yourself an upset stomach and so if you feel like you need something that will last you a little bit longer then this is an awesome choice. 


I think we can all agree that popcorn is at its best when you get it in a movie theater, and the reason for that is because it’s fresh. So if you want to enjoy buttered popcorn to its fullest extent, then instead of eating prepackaged stuff you could order some.


It might seem like a strange concept, having popcorn delivered to your door like you would have pizza delivered, but there are many meal kit delivery services which specialise in snacks and the best ones would for sure have popcorn.


Preempt your munchies and order some popcorn ahead of time so that it’s ready for you when the hunger hits.
