Chernobyl is a sativa-dominant strain. TGA Genetics really created a dankenstein with this one! A dankenstein strain is a cross between two or more landrace cross strains, deliberately bred for potency or flavor. Chernobyl has both. It was created by crossing Jack the Ripper, Trainwreck, and Trinity. This gave it almost unrivaled potency and a great flavor to go with it.
This strain is sometimes called Chernobyl Kush, Trinoble Weed, Tranoble strain, PDX strain, TGA Chernobyl, or the Holy Trinity Strain. Chernobyl is considered to be a dank weed strain. TGA Genetics grower Subcool originally created the Chernobyl strain.

Chernobyl Strain sativa or indica?
Chernobyl is a sativa-dominant hybrid. It was created specifically to remove the gender-bending chances of Trainwreck. This means that occasionally the Trainwreck strain would change from being a female to a male. This can be incredibly frustrating if you’re growing cannabis to smoke, and hence Chernobyl was created. It was also created for potency and flavor, and it won the High Times strain of the year in 2010. It has long-lasting effects, leaving tokers on their happy high for a while! If you’re looking for a sativa-dominant hybrid to pin your hopes on, look no further!
Chernobyl Strain genetics
Chernobyl is sometimes called the Holy Trinity of weed because it’s a cross between three legendary strains:
- Trainwreck
- Trinity
- Jack the Ripper
Trainwreck was crossed with Trinity, and then it was pollinated by a Jack the Ripper phenotype. The resulting strain is now known as Chernobyl. Be careful with this strain if you’re a newcomer because it is considered to be exceptionally strong.
Chernobyl Strain THC percentage
As mentioned previously, this strain is very strong. The average sativa-dominant hybrid as around 13% THC potency, whereas Chernobyl has sometimes tested over twice as much with 30% THC. For a sativa-dominant hybrid this is very strong. The average phenotype of Chernobyl has 22% THC. This is still fairly high. If you do find that you feel too high from smoking this strain, take a cold shower and drink a hot pot of coffee, and you should feel right as rain afterwards.
Chernobyl Strain price
Chernobyl is a dankenstein strain, and the seeds aren’t available online from the original breeder. However, there are some websites that claim to sell the seeds. The fact that the seeds aren’t available online from the original seller means that the price is higher because the supply is lower. In a dispensary in North America, this strain is around $20 a gram, in a coffee shop in Amsterdam, you’re looking at spending around the same price.
Chernobyl Strain taste
Chernobyl is a cross between three tasty strains, and as such it has a very good flavor itself. The flavor profile of this strain is as follows:
- Lime
- Sweet
- Citrus
- Earthy
As this strain is so tasty, you should experience it with a flower vape. This is because there isn’t any combustion of plant material, making the flavor a lot better. Furthermore, vaping has health benefits, as well as being more cost-efficient as opposed to smoking a blunt or a joint.
Chernobyl Strain oil, wax, shatter, edibles, etc.
You can create oils, waxes, shatters, etc from any strain you like. Most concentrate makers look for potent strains with good taste. This makes Chernobyl a great choice for concentrates because it has both a high THC percentage as well as a great flavor. However, making BHO (Butane Hash Oil) is considered to be dangerous, so it’s better to experience this in North American dispensaries, where you can more easily enjoy shattering someone else has already made for you!
You can also make edibles from any strain. If you are vaporizing your marijuana then you can use your already vaped bud to easily create edibles. Simply mix your AVB with a fat or oil, cook it into something, and you’re good to go. However, if you don’t have a vaporizer, then you must first decarboxylate your weed. This is necessary, as without doing so you lose a large percentage of your potency.

Chernobyl is a sativa-dominant hybrid with about a 70:30 leaning. This makes it a great medicine for curbing depression, as balanced hybrids are preferred so that you can experience both the warm hug of an indica, and a cerebral buzz of a sativa. However, this strain is also incredibly potent, and therefore could be overwhelming for newer stoners. As mentioned before, just have a cold shower and a coffee if you feel too stoned.
Chernobyl Strain flowering time
Chernobyl’s flowering time is about 7-9 weeks. This is relatively quick. It’s recommended to leave it for the full 9 weeks for full potency.
Chernobyl Strain Growing tips
You should train Chernobyl. This may sound a little strange, but basically this means to bend and secure parts of the plant to ensure no damage occurs to the overall plant. You should also remove damaged parts of the plant, and, finally, you should manipulate timelines to get faster or bigger yields.
Chernobyl Strain seeds
The seeds aren’t available from the original grower, but there are some sellers who claim to sell the seeds online. However, a lot of these won’t be legit, so try to do as much homework you can on your source to make sure you're getting what you're paying for.
Chernobyl Strain yield
Chernobyl has a decent yield, sitting at around 2 ounces per foot squared. This isn’t massive, but it’s not half bad either.

What is the Chernobyl cannabis strain?
Chernobyl is a sativa-dominant hybrid bred from 3 fairly well-known strains. It was originally bred by TGA Genetics and has mind-bending Sativa effects. It also has slight indica effects that help balance the strain out. This makes it a good treatment option for depression, and it will also help with stress. The plant itself is fairly easy to grow, has a decent yield, and a high THC percentage.
- Sativa-dominant hybrid
- Bred by TGA Genetics
- Cross between Trinity, Trainwreck, Jack the Ripper
- Great flavour, flower vape is recommended
- Can contain up to 30% THC
- Can be overwhelming for newer stoners.
