The Lemon Diesel weed parentage is somewhat disputed with most knowledgeable sources going with a lineage of crossing Lost Coast OG – a 60/40 indica-dominant hybrid with 18 to 22% THC, and California Sour – a 50/50 indica/sativa even hybrid strain with a broad THC range of 13-20%.

There’s also a version of Lemon Diesel that is sired and sold as a crossbreed between West Coast Diesel – a 90/10 sativa-dominant hybrid with a range of 22-26% THC and 65% sativa-heavy Lemon Skunk (also known by some as Lemon Skunk Diesel), which has a THC of up to 22%. There’s even a Lemon Diesel that is bred from Pakistani weed strain with Lemon Thai, Chemdawg #4, and California Sour – and they thought Freddy Krueger had complicated parentage.

What do you get when you genetically blend the citrus phenotype OG Kush with Sour Diesel? How about Super Lemon Diesel – not made from Lemon Diesel or even having the same lineage, more of a kind of 2^nd cousin. Super Lemon Diesel has a THC heft of 19-22% and is Sativa-dominant with the same citrusy and oily taste and smell as Lemon Diesel.

Not only do bewilderingly similar names to Lemon Diesel include Lemon Skunk Diesel, but there’s also Lemon Diesel Kush, or just Lemon Kush, with 26% THC. Basically, there are all kinds of other Diesel weed strains (like Sour Diesel, Biodiesel, just plain Diesel, New York Diesel) and kinds of Lemon weed strains (there’s Hard Lemon, Lemon Cake, Lemon G, Lemon OG, Lemon Haze, Space Lemon and a gazillion others); unscrupulous dealers might purposely conflate the names of the various Lemons and Diesel to sell you something, and sometimes users mix them up because they are all so similar in name, taste, smell and even sometimes effects, depending upon their indica/sativa ratio.

To really ramp up the Lemon and Diesel cannabis confusion, there is Lemon Sour Diesel strain, or Sour Lemon Diesel – sometimes even Sour Diesel Lemon Kush. If you’re wondering about LSD vs Lemon Sour Diesel weed strains, the answer isn’t an easy one: some call LSD cannabis strain by the name Lemon Sour Diesel because of negative associations with the narcotic lysergic acid diethylamide (or LSD) and yet there is also a legitimately separate marijuana strain called Lemon Sour Diesel.

The real Lemon Sour Diesel is an 80% sativa-dominant hybrid; contrastingly, LSD weed strain is a 55% indica-leaning hybrid weed strain. Lemon Sour Diesel has a THC level of 12-20%, whereas LSD weed has a 24% THC power load. Lemon Sour Diesel weed has been bred from California Sour and Lost Coast OG, just like Lemon Diesel and sometimes the two different strains are mistaken for each other – even though Lemon Diesel is an indica-leaning hybrid and Lemon Sour Diesel is more sativa-heavy – they could be considered phenotypes (a same plant with significantly different characteristics due to their growing environment); and LSD is an offspring of 65% indica Skunk #1 hybrid weed and Mazar I Sharif - a genetic variation of Afghani landrace pure indica.

For the purpose of simplification, we shall limit this blog to Lemon Diesel with some information about Lemon Sour Diesel, which is likely a phenotype. Just be aware when you purchase Lemon Diesel or Lemon Sour Diesel that while they are one and the same plant, they are also completely different phenotypes of the strain, with vastly different effects – if you’re buying commercially, ask your budtender to show you the lab tests for the strain you are buying to confirm its parentage, THC levels, and indica versus sativa ratios; if you’re buying from a private dealer, you’ve potentially screwed anyway (hopefully you didn’t buy 50% oregano). Some dispensaries are required to charge you a local or state tax, usually 2-6%, on weed purchases. Pre-rolled joints, pretty much anywhere weed is sold, can be found for around $5 to $15 and on up each, depending upon their size, which can run half-a-gram to two grams or more. The dense bud structure of Lemon Diesel means that it is well-adapted for the ‘sea of green’ growing technique in which plants are sown or transplanted in tight quarters, so that as they grow a canopy of buds forms, and natural or artificial solar light gives the canopy all the photon energy it needs to grow efficiently. Growing Lemon Diesel strain using this technique is perfect for growers with either smaller garden spaces or bigger growers with multiple growing tables. The productivity of Lemon Diesel plants produces 2.6 oz per square foot in a moderate, outdoor climate and between 1 and 1 ¼ oz per square foot indoors. The overall height of the Lemon Diesel plant, indoors or outside, is around 40 inches, or just over a yard/meter.

For comparison and contrast, we’re gonna also take a look at the growing profile of Lemon Sour Diesel. How fast does Lemon Sour Diesel finish? Lemon Sour Diesel flowering time is 60-65 days outdoors and over 70 days indoors. And the Lemon Sour Diesel yield is 450 grams (15 ounces) per square meter/yard indoors with an outdoor production of 760 grams (26 ounces) per plant. Lemon Sour Diesel seeds are harder to come by than those of Lemon Diesel, although once available from noted grower Med Man Seeds (but not as feminized plants, so perhaps just for crossbreeding), there is no longer any seed source that we could find, online. Offline you might be able to contact any source selling Lemon Diesel clones or seeds and see if they ever have any of the sativa phenotype, Lemon Sour Diesel, available.

So, has all of this Lemon Diesel information puckered your brain? Because marijuana legalization and regulation is still a very new thing, it can be hard to pin down just what exactly constitutes a particular strain such as Lemon Diesel other than a dank, oily odor and lemony taste when toked.
